LangChain 1.4.8 Release: Last Minor with Python 3.10 Support
LangChain 1.4.8 updates dependencies and signals end of Python 3.10 support in upcoming releases. Developers using Python 3.10 need to prepare for upgrade.
What changed?
LangChain 1.4.8 introduces updated dependencies including pyasn1, joserfc, authlib, fastmcp, and opentelemetry-api. The release also relaxes upper bounds on third-party dependencies. Critically, it is announced that Python 3.10 support will end in the next major LangChain and langchain-core versions: 1.5.0 and 1.8.0 respectively.
Why does it matter to an everyday developer?
Developers relying on Python 3.10 will be restricted to the 1.4.x branch of LangChain and 1.7.x of langchain-core. Upgrading to future versions will require moving to Python 3.11 or higher. The dependency updates may resolve vulnerabilities and improve integration stability. Projects that track the latest LangChain features or security patches may be affected if they have not yet migrated to a newer Python version.
What can the developer do now?
- Review your project's Python runtime version if you use LangChain.
- Plan to upgrade your environments to at least Python 3.11 if you intend to use future releases beyond LangChain 1.4.x.
- Test and validate system compatibility with the updated third-party dependencies included in 1.4.8.
- For continued Python 3.10 usage, be aware that 1.4.x will not receive future feature updates.
