Cline SDK v0.0.94 Removes In-Process Plugins, Enhances Reliability and Logs
Cline SDK v0.0.94 eliminates the in_process plugin mode, enforcing execution in worker threads or subprocess sandbox, adds new error handling, plugin sandbox controls, and offers enhanced logging and API extension points.
What changed?
Cline SDK v0.0.94 removes the in_process mode for plugins, requiring them to run either in worker threads (the default, CLINE_PLUGIN_MODE=worker) or a subprocess sandbox (sandbox). Silent fallback to in_process has also been eliminated. If hosts do not provide plugin-sandbox-bootstrap.js, every plugin load now fails with PluginBootstrapMissingError, explicitly naming the required bootstrap path. The release also makes uncaught hub daemon errors fatal again and adds up to three retries for provider errors that occur after a model stream starts. Model request failure logs now include the provider's request ID. New lifecycle hooks and authentication options have been added: setHubDaemonLauncher allows embedded hosts to launch the hub daemon with the bundled Cline CLI, ensureDetachedHubServer introduces a beforeSpawn hook, and NodeHubClient now supports resolveConnectionHeaders for refreshing authentication headers on WebSocket reconnects. AskQuestionExecutor supports returning both text and image blocks. There is also a new buildTelemetrySelfcheckReport export.
Why does it matter to an everyday developer?
Plugin execution is now more predictable: all plugins are isolated from the host process, improving security and crash reliability. Previously, missing plugin sandboxes could cause silent and potentially unsafe plugin loads; now, configuration errors are surfaced immediately with descriptive errors. The stricter error handling and explicit error messaging simplify debugging and security review. Retry logic for provider errors can make multi-stage model requests more robust, and the inclusion of the provider request ID aids diagnostics. New hooks and authentication helpers facilitate embedding Cline in more complex or authenticated environments. The ability for AskQuestionExecutor to return images, not just text, enables broader response types.
