Amazon Bedrock Enables Global Cross-Region Inference for OpenAI GPT-6 Models in Asia Pacific
Amazon Bedrock now supports global cross-Region inference for the OpenAI GPT-6 Sol, Luna, and Astra models from Singapore, Jakarta, Thailand, Malaysia, and Taipei. This change introduces new API requirements, broader model access, and adjustments for developers migrating OpenAI clients.
What changed?
Amazon Bedrock now offers OpenAI GPT-6 Sol, Luna, and Astra models with global cross-Region inference for Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Taiwan. GPT-6 Sol and Luna are available from all five listed AWS Asia Pacific Regions, while Astra is accessible only from Singapore. Developers must invoke these models using a global cross-Region inference profile ID instead of a model ID. Supported APIs include the Bedrock Converse API and OpenAI-compatible APIs, both of which require the inference profile ID for model identification. The available models accept both text and image input, support client-side tool use, allow prompt caching, and route inference requests through any supported AWS Region while maintaining account-level billing in the source Region.

Why does it matter to an everyday developer?
Developers and teams in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Taiwan can now reliably access the latest OpenAI GPT-6 models from their preferred AWS Region, even if local capacity is constrained. This means improved model availability, lower latency, and more predictable scaling across projects that require advanced AI features, such as multimodal input and advanced reasoning. With broader API compatibility, developers can migrate traditional OpenAI-powered workflows and applications to Bedrock with minimal logic changes. The introduction of profile-based invocation, however, requires explicit changes to client code and IAM/SCP policies.
